The Otago District 'Open' in conjunction with the Otago Championships was held at the Otago Squash Club over the weekend with 100 players taking part. High quality squash was a feature of the weekend with many results decided in the fifth set. Other pleasing aspects of the tournament were the number of women entrants especially those reasonably new to the sport. Also notable were the results of our Otago junior squad members with Matt Butcher (Taieri) taking out the Men's 'A' grade; Jack Maffey (Otago), the Men's 'E' and Gracin Harrex runner-up in the Men's 'D'.
The Men's Championship was won by top-seed Mitch Kempton (Otago University) from club mate and a new player to the Otago squash scene Hua Shin Tan. Ange Button (Otago) reversed the result of 2018 championship by beating Sam Cross from Pirates. Players from Wanaka, Cromwell, Alexandra, Gore and of course Dunedin took part.  Hi all,
The committee at the University Of Otago Squash Club have gotten together and we've decided we'd like to do our bit to help the victims and their families after the events that occurred in Christchurch a couple of weeks ago. So we are running a doubles night that will take place next Friday, the 12th of April starting 6pm, running till late. You may enter as a team or as an individual, if you enter as an individual we'll pair you up with another individual. The entry fee is $15 per player, i.e. $30 for a team. All entry fees and bar profit will be sent away to Christchurch so the more numbers the better! We have spot prizes donated for players, and will be given as prizes! It will be themed " Red and Black " as they're Canterbury colours and there will be prizes for best dressed so get creative! Lastly, some have emailed saying they'd like to donate some money instead of playing, if that is the case, please don't hesitate to email me on president@unisquash.net and I'll let you know where you can deposit the donation.
