L to R: Men's B Grade - Otago University; Men's C Grade - Queenstown; Men's D Grade: OtagoThe Otago District Super Champ Eliminations were held at the weekend in Cromwell & Dunedin. Cromwell Squash Club hosted the C Grade with a record 6 Central Otago teams entering with Sunnyvale carrying the flag for Dunedin. The teams were seeded into 2 pools. Queenstown being top seed had a bye on Friday night. Ties were played Friday night at 7.00 pm; Saturday morning 10.00 am; Saturday afternoon 3.00 pm; Semis - Sunday morning 9.00 am & finals Sunday 1.00 pm. All in all, a lot of squash and a lot of tired bodies. 1st & 2nd seeds, Queenstown and Cromwell fought out the final with Queenstown coming out the victors. After being down two games, Patrick Coombe (Queenstown) fought his way back to win 15 - 9 in the fifth - a true final.
Men's B & D Grades were hosted by the Pirates Club with only one tie being played for each grade. The B Grade was between the Otago University and Pirates. Neither team had their top player available with Otago University winning through 4 matches to 1. Otago SC played Cromwell in the Men's D Grade - this was another tight fought battle with the final score 3 - 2 to Otago. Unfortunately, Cromwell's number one player had to retire injured which didn't help Cromwell's cause. Other grades that won through without a contest were: Women's B - Otago University; Women's C - Otago University; Women's D - Pirates; Men's E - Pirates Comments are closed.
