The Aucklander claimed the under 17 and under 19 titles at the tournament held at the Otago Squash Club last weekend. In the under 19 final, she impressively beat 2nd seed Annmarie Holst (Northland) 11-5, 11-6, 11-6 and only dropped one game in the under 17 age group to take the title from Anna O'Connor (Southland).
In the boy's under 19 final, Riley-Jack Vette-Blomquist (Northland) won a five-set final over top-seed Kobe Fleming (Wellington). Earlier, the pair had battled it out in the under 17 final with Kobe coming out on top with a 3-0 win, 11-9; 13-11 11-7. In the under 15 girls, Jena Gregory (Eastern) beat Otago's highest finishing player Martha Toghill (Wanaka) in three, 11-4; 11-6 11-4. The under 15 boys title was taken out by third seed, Freddie Jamieson (Northland) over second seed, Scott Butterick (Canterbury). Grace Spencer (Auckland) also claimed two titles. At the tender age of 10 she took out the girl's under 13 title from Elle Cowley (Southland) 9-11; 11-5; 12-10; 11-8 and the under 11 title from Neve Cowley (Southland). An upset in the boy's under 13 age group saw 3rd seed, Chris Hebbard (Canterbury) battle for a 5 set win over 4th seed Flynn Venmore (Northland) 11-6; 9-11; 7-11; 11-7; 11-6. The boy's under 11 age-group went to top seed, Southland's, Ashton Hansen beating second seed, Brodie Bennett (Central Districts) in 3 sets 11-8; 11-8 11-9. Gracin Harrex from the Taieri Club won the boy's under 17 'B' grade in three over Brendan Krieger (Southland). Comments are closed.
