The Otago District 'Open' in conjunction with the Otago Championships was held at the Otago Squash Club over the weekend with 100 players taking part. High quality squash was a feature of the weekend with many results decided in the fifth set. Other pleasing aspects of the tournament were the number of women entrants especially those reasonably new to the sport. Also notable were the results of our Otago junior squad members with Matt Butcher (Taieri) taking out the Men's 'A' grade; Jack Maffey (Otago), the Men's 'E' and Gracin Harrex runner-up in the Men's 'D'.
The Men's Championship was won by top-seed Mitch Kempton (Otago University) from club mate and a new player to the Otago squash scene Hua Shin Tan. Ange Button (Otago) reversed the result of 2018 championship by beating Sam Cross from Pirates.
