The 2023 Otago Junior Championships were held in conjunction with the final tournament of the Junior HEAD Series at the weekend. Special thanks to Brent Davies, Otago Sports Depot & HEAD for their continued support of the HEAD Junior Series over many years. Also, a big 'thank you' to Neal Corbett and the Wanaka Squash Club for hosting the event with 5 grades battling it out over Saturday and Sunday. It was great to see a big contingent of Squash City juniors from Southland in the draws . Both top seeds proved too strong for their younger opponents with Ingamar Siegruhn (Squash City - Southland) running out winner in the boys over Levi Casey, a very talented 10 year old from Cromwell and the girl's title going to Grace Brenssell (Cromwell) over Melanie Button (Otago). Special prizes were awarded to: Left: 'HEAD' Special 'Fair Play' Prize - Olivia & Mackenzie Smith (Wanaka) with Tony Johnston (SO - Chairman) Middle:: Squash Otago 'Personality Cup' winner - Violet Casey (Cromwell) & Tony with Finlay Rowe (Pirates). 'HEAD' series winners: Congratulations to Finlay Rowe from Pirates in winning the overall 'HEAD' Series with attending all tournament and having consistent results throughout. Final results are: Finlay Rowe (Pirates) - 690 points - 1st; Torben Barlev (Pirates) - 670 points - 2nd; Thomas Barlev (Pirates) - 660 points - 3rd; Hunter Compton (Taieri) - 480 points - 4th & Samantha Batt (Clutha) - 470 points 5th.
