2023 Winners - MidlandsThe 2023 Triangular Team's Event contested annually between Central Otago, Midlands & Metro Otago (Dunedin) was hosted by the Palmerston Squash Club on Friday & Saturday 6th & 7th October. A very tight competition was contested with squash & camaraderie the winner over the weekend.
Congratulations to the Midland's Team in taking out the overall title by winning a very competitive tie against Otago Metro with the winning margin being 5 matches each, 17 games each - the difference 410 points to Midlands to Otago's 403 points. Saturday morning saw another struggle between Central Otago & Otago Metro with Central coming out on top with 5 matches each; 19 games to 16 & 449 points to 423. The overall title was decided on Saturday afternoon when Midlands & Central fronted up with Midlands winning 6 matches to 4. Final positions - 1st Midlands; 2nd Central Otago & 3rd Otago Metro. A big 'thank you' to Anita Vickers, Rob Hewitt & the Palmerston Club for another well-run event. Also thanks to all team players & Managers that put their hand up and represented their area with pride. Our best wishes for a speedy recovery to Lachie Hamilton (Midlands) who ended up visiting the Dunedin A & E Department not being able to play his second match. A freak accident while reffing from the referee stand, where a ball hit off the back wall sprayed up and hit him in the eye - hopefully there will be no long-term effect. Also maybe a lesson to be learned. From all accounts, he was able to join the rest of the crew for the Saturday night dinner at the Waihemo Lodge. A presentation was made to David Small (Omakau) recognising his long association with squash in Otago, especially Central Otago and the Triangular Tournament for which he has been involved since it's inception. Andrea Hamilton (Omakau) was also acknowledged for the many years she has been supporting David at this event. In 2024 the Triangular will be hosted by the Midland's District - venue and date to be confirmed.
